What's the difference between 18/0 and 18/8 stainless steel?

You'll notice different stainless steel grades listed across our range. Here's the short version.

18/8 (304) stainless steel contains approximately 18% chromium and 8% nickel. It's widely used in kitchenware and offers excellent corrosion resistance.

18/0 (430) stainless steel contains approximately 18% chromium with no added nickel. It also offers good corrosion resistance and is magnetic.

Both are great for everyday baking. If you're avoiding nickel, choose 18/0. Otherwise, either grade is a reliable choice.

Our standard oven tray is available in both grades, including a nickel-free 18/0 option. Our stainless steel muffin pans are also made from nickel-free 18/0 stainless steel.

Can stainless steel oven trays warp?

Stainless steel can move as it heats and cools, and you may occasionally notice some temporary flexing or warping. As stainless steel heats up, the metal expands. Because our oven trays are made from a single sheet of stainless steel without added coatings or layers, some movement can occur during heating.

You might notice your tray temporarily flex or change shape as it heats, then settle again as it cools. For our larger oven trays, we recommend placing the tray in the oven while it's preheating so the metal warms gradually.

A little movement is normal and shouldn't affect how your tray performs. If you experience excessive or permanent warping, please get in touch with us.

What temperatures can our stainless steel trays handle?

Our stainless steel oven trays are designed for everyday use in conventional household ovens.

Cooking at higher temperatures?

Our stainless steel pizza pans are designed specifically for higher-temperature cooking in pizza ovens, suitable up to 400°C.

Always follow the temperature recommendations for your specific product and cooking appliance.

Still deciding?

For everyday family cooking, start with the standard oven tray or nickel-free oven tray. They're our best-selling pans for a reason. If you often cook smaller portions or like to keep foods separate, add the small tray. If you're an air fryer fan, or cooking in a caravan or compact oven, the mini tray might become your most-used tray.

Whichever you choose, you're getting uncoated stainless steel that's easy to clean, dishwasher-safe and made for everyday use.
