Our Products
Where are your products made?
Where are your products made?
We source our products from a variety of places. Our products come from Australia, Japan, China, Hong Kong and Spain.
Why do you source from countries other than Australia?
Why do you source from countries other than Australia?
As a small Australian business, we love to support Australian businesses and contribute to the Australian economy. However, we have struggled to find a local manufacturer to create our stainless steel products.
Countries such as Japan, China and Hong Kong have extensive manufacturing capabilities which enable competitive pricing and access to specialised production techniques and equipment that are unfortunately no longer available in Australia.
What are your products made from?
What are your products made from?
The majority of our products are made from stainless steel. Stainless steel is a great alternative to non-stick and plastic products. It is dishwasher friendly, recyclable, versatile, sustainable and long lasting.
Our products are 100% uncoated stainless steel - no binders, no coatings, no fillers, just stainless steel.
What grade is your stainless steel?
What grade is your stainless steel?
We use food grade 304 (18/8) and 430 (18/0) stainless steel for most of our products. The grade of stainless steel used is mentioned on the product listing. All our products are uncoated stainless steel

Why are there small bits of blue plastic on my stainless steel item?
Why are there small bits of blue plastic on my stainless steel item?
The small blue fragments are likely from the protective film applied to the product during manufacturing to prevent scratches. Occasionally, small pieces may remain on the surface, especially around edges or crevices. These are harmless and can be easily removed by peeling them off or gently washing the item. If you have any concerns, please contact us at info@thelowtoxproject.com.au
Packaging and Sustainability
Why do some items arrive wrapped in plastic?
Why do some items arrive wrapped in plastic?
Some of our heavier stainless steel items (like trays and bakeware) are currently packed in a clear protective plastic sleeve.
This is used purely for protection during transport and storage. These items are too heavy to be safely wrapped in paper or boxed without increasing damage, breakage, or waste. The clear wrap also allows our warehouse team and wholesale partners to easily identify products that look very similar.
We know this isn’t ideal, and we’re always in discussion with our suppliers to reduce plastic where possible.
Why are lighter items packaged differently?
Why are lighter items packaged differently?
Lighter items are packed using cardboard boxes or paper wrapping and are plastic-free.
We choose packaging based on the weight and handling requirements of each product to ensure it arrives safely and in good condition.
What is the flyer included with some products for?
What is the flyer included with some products for?
Some products include a small printed insert that serves multiple purposes:
- It includes a barcode for warehouse and retail identification
- It helps visually distinguish similar-looking items
- It provides basic usage or care information where required
We’re always reviewing the paper stock used for these inserts and explore options with lower environmental impact.
Is your packaging recyclable?
Is your packaging recyclable?
Yes. All outer boxes, tape, and paper packaging used in our orders are fully recyclable.
Any plastic used is limited to what you see when you receive your order. There is no hidden plastic packaging.
Are you planning to reduce plastic further?
Are you planning to reduce plastic further?
Absolutely. Reducing our footprint is an ongoing process, and we regularly review packaging with our suppliers to see where improvements can be made.
Suggestions from our community are genuinely valued and often help guide these conversations.
Are you B Corp certified?
Are you B Corp certified?
Not at this stage.
B Corp certification is something we are working towards, but it’s currently beyond the budget of our small business. It’s very much an aspiration as we continue to grow, however having said that we are doing everything we can to align with the requirements of the certification.
Why not switch entirely to paper or kraft packaging?
Why not switch entirely to paper or kraft packaging?
For heavier stainless steel products, paper-only packaging hasn’t proven viable yet due to weight, handling, and damage risk.
That said, we’re actively exploring alternative materials (including kraft-based options) with our factory partners and will make changes where they’re practical and effective.
Why are you called Low Tox and not Non-Toxic or No Tox?
Why are you called Low Tox and not Non-Toxic or No Tox?
We use the term low tox intentionally. Our name comes from the community we started over eight years ago, helping people find lower-tox alternatives and swaps across everyday life – from personal care products to home and building materials.
We chose low tox because it reflects reality. It’s not possible to live a completely “no-tox” life, and we believe it’s important to be honest about that. The term low tox is widely used to describe a more considered, lower-exposure approach.
Does low tox mean your products are toxin-free?
Does low tox mean your products are toxin-free?
No – and that’s exactly why we don’t use that language. Rather than making absolute claims, we focus on creating products that are as low tox as they can realistically be, using durable materials like stainless steel and avoiding unnecessary coatings, finishes, and adhesives wherever possible.
We believe transparency builds trust, and low tox better reflects that balance.
